Pawsitive Results Enjoys Double Honors Pawsitive Results enjoyed double honors June 17 when two of its canine therapists were inducted into the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians’ (SCAV) Animal Hall of Fame! Pawsitive Results owner Teoti Anderson escorted Cody, her 12-year-old, three-legged Labrador Retriever. Pawsitive Results assistant Jenny Prather escorted Annie, her 7-year-old Collie. Both dogs, Delta Society® Pet Partners®, earned an award in the Companion category for their work in animal-assisted activities and therapy.
The awards were presented at Medieval Times Dinner Theater in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, by Dr. Greg Brown of Sunset Animal Clinic, West Columbia. Cody was the first Pet Partner in North and South Carolina, beginning his volunteer journey almost 11 years ago. Throughout his long career volunteering in healthcare facilities, he has soothed hospice patients, comforted children with disabilities, and cheered senior citizens in nursing homes. He has also helped ease the fears of children with phobias in private practice therapy sessions. In 1999, he earned the Delta Society Pet Partner Beyond Limits National Therapy Team of the Year award (along with Teoti's cat, Sebastian).
Annie, a Pet Partner for more than two years, has a special affinity for children. She regularly visits children with disabilities and children with cancer, making them smile with her aptitude for tricks and her uncanny resemblance to “Lassie”! Annie also participates in the Prescription Paws bite prevention program, which teaches children how to interact with dogs safely. Annie was nominated by another Pawsitive Results assistant, Heather Nick, who accompanied us to the ceremony! Prescription Paws is a Delta Society Pet Partner Affiliate group serving the South Carolina Midlands. The Delta Society is an international non-profit organization that promotes the human-animal bond. One of its most successful programs, the Pet Partner program, trains people and screens their animal partners to perform animal-assisted activities and therapy. For more information, visit www.prescriptionpaws.org or www.deltasociety.org. Note: Sadly, Annie and Cody are no longer with us ... but their legacy lives on in the many smiles they brought to patients in their work as therapy dogs, and in our hearts forever.
